Fiat is all set to launch the original (pre-facelift) Punto in India by the end of January 2016 and it will be called the Fiat Punto Pure. This seems to be the Italian automaker’s attempt at clearing out residual inventory, which sits in stock as a result of the Punto Evo launch.
The car will be offered in three trims viz. Emotion (top-end), Dynamic (mid-range) and Active (Base). The variants will feature powerplant choices that include a 1.3 liter Multijet diesel engine, which produces 75bhp of power and 197Nm of torque. This will help the hatchback go toe-to-toe against Baleno’s diesel variant. The petrol variant will feature Fiat’s 1.2-liter and 1.4-liter FIRE units, which are capable of producing 68bhp of power and 96Nm of torque and 90bhp and 115Nm of peak torque, respectively. The 90bhp variant will hold its own against the range of premium hatchbacks available in India. The range of powerplants will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Punto Pure will rival the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo, Honda Jazz and Maruti’s premium hatchback, the Baleno.
Considering the fact that the upcoming Punto Pure models belong to the lot that was discontinued in August 2014, courtesy of Punto Evo’s launch, the upcoming models will be priced competitively.
