Fiat has launched the Punto Evo today at an aggressive price of Rs 4.55 lakh - Rs 7.19 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Let us remind you that this is just a facelift, and all the changes are cosmetic, except for one mechanical upgrade on the 75bhp diesel. Two petrols and two diesels are on offer, to begin with there is the 68bhp 1.2-litre and 90bhp 1.4-litre petrols while the oil burner is one engine 1.3-litre with two state of tunes, 75bhp and 90bhp. The strongest points of the Punto is its styling, its ride and handling and also its built. No car comes close to the feel of a direct steering wheel one gets whilst driving the Punto. The Grande Punto has been renamed as the Punto Evo.
On the outside, there are the new pulled-back headlamps, new front grille, revised tail lamp design and a lot of chrome. Interiors have a newly designed instrument panel however there are no features. The Blue and Me has been enhanced and now it even has aux connectivity, but it cannot stream music through Bluetooth. The Punto Evo has good ride quality but it has a long turning radius. The ground clearance too, is very good.
Fiat Punto Evo Vs Maruti Suzuki Swift:
The Swift is the best seller in its segment and the Fiat Punto Evo’s advantages over the Maruti Suzuki is its boot space, driving dynamics, ground clearance and the built. The Swift has a few more advantages like better re-seller, better quality interiors and drivability and performance. Both have some pros and cons, however the Swift comes out as a clear winner, despite both the vehicles using the same Fiat multijet diesel engine. The Swift excels in performance and better fuel efficiency too. Mind will pick the Swift and the heart will go for the Punto Evo.
Fiat Punto Evo Vs new Elite Hyundai i20:
The new Hyundai i20 is a completely feature loaded car. Start-stop, keyless entry, reverse parking camera, six-airbags and the list will not stop there. The Punto Evo will certainly have an edge in the handling department and better ground clearance and maybe more boot space. The i20 trashes the entire competition with more features and stylish design. As the Korean company will be using the same set of engines, the performance and fuel efficiency will be better too. The i20 wins clearly, unless Fiat prices the Punto Evo aggressively and Hyundai doesn’t. And we doubt if this will happen.
Fiat Punto Evo Vs Volkswagen Polo:
Volkswagen has recently updated the Polo, but the Punto and Polo still ave a close call. So, what advantages does the Punto Evo have? Lesser maintenance cost, more rear kneeroom, bigger boot and better ground clearance. The Polo gets better interior quality, better drivability atleast in the GT TSi and better fuel efficiency too. The call is close and we will give it to the Punto Evo.
