India's crude oil refinery output rebounded 4.2% to 19.115 million tonnes (mt) in October 2014, snapping decline for last three sequential months. Public sector refineries recorded 1.9% growth in the output to 9.915 mt in October 2014. Meanwhile, the output of private refineries improved 1.4% to 7.723 mt, while that of Public-private joint venture refiner's surged 48% to 1.478 mt in October 2014 over October 2013.Among the public refineries, the output of Indian Oil jumped 13.1% to 4.659 mt, while the output of Chennai Petroleum also improved 28.6% to 0.852 mt in October 2014. However, the output of Numaligarh Refineries declined 1.6% to 0.248 mt, while the output of Hindustan Petroleum dipped 17.1% to 1.057 mt. Further, the output of Bharat Petroleum also eased 10.1% to 1.892 mt, while that of Mangalore Refineries fell 8% to 1.204 mt in October 2014 against October 2013.
Among the JV refineries, Bharat Oman recorded more than two-fold increase in output to 0.612 mt, while the output of HPCL Mittal increased 20% to 0.866 mt in October 2014. Among private refiners, the output of Essar Oil declined 0.7% to 1.736 mt, while that of Reliance Petroleum improved 2.1% to 5.987 mt in October 2014.
The cumulative refinery output declined 1.7% to 127.798 mt during April-October FY2015. The output of public refineries rose 0.1%, but that of private refineries as well as JV refineries declined. Among the public refineries, Bharat Petroleum, Mangalore Refineries and Chennai Petroleum recorded decline in refinery output, while the output of Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum and Numaligarh Refineries increased in April-October FY2015.
The overall capacity utilization was higher at 104.65% during October 2014, while it was lower at 101.35% in April-October FY2015, compared to 100.4% in October 2013 and 103.1% in April-October FY2014.
