Rabi area coverage shows improvement: Ministry of Agriculture

Rabi crops almost equals last year's sowing at 279.78 lakh hectares

As per Rabi Crops data released by Directorate of Economics & Statistics under Ministry of Agriculture, the total area coverage under Rabi crops almost equals last year's sowing at 279.78 lakh hectares as on 21 November 2014.

The area under wheat sowing has slightly crossed last year's area. This year at 107.35 lakh hectare, it is slightly higher than that of last year's 107.24 lakh hectares.

The area under sowing of gram at 54.61 lakh hectare this year is behind last year's figure of 64.76 lakh hectare during the same week.

Area coverage under total pulses is also behind at 80.74 lakh hectare as compared to last year's area coverage of 91.19 lakh hectare during the corresponding week.

Similarly, area under total oilseeds is at 60.34 lakh hectare as compared to 64.06 lakh hectare sown last year in the corresponding week.
