Trading of Nifty 50 index futures on the Singapore stock exchange indicates that the Nifty could rise 10 points at the opening bell.
Overseas, most Asian markets were trading higher as investors remained optimistic amid easing worries about US-China trade tensions and on hopes of a global economic pickup next year. Some of the markets in the Asian region continued to remain closed for holidays.
In US, stocks ended nearly flat on Tuesday in a shortened trading session before closing for Christmas Day.
Investors have been encouraged by plans for an interim US-Chinese trade deal despite having seen few details.
US markets will reopen on Thursday.
Back home, markets were closed on Wednesday, 25 December 2019, for Christmas. The market declined for second consecutive session on Tuesday, as investors locked in some of the recent gains in thin trading ahead of the Christmas holiday on Wednesday. The barometer index, the BSE Sensex, fell 181.40 points or 0.44% to 41,461.26. The Nifty 50 index lost 50.75 points or 0.41% to 12,212.
The trading activity on that day showed that the foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 114.38 crore on Tuesday, 24 December 2019, as per provisional data released by the stock exchanges. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 345.22 crore, Tuesday, 24 December 2019, as per provisional data.
