A total of 108 villages in 10 states were electrified during last week, ending May 22, under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna, an official statement said on Monday.
"Of these electrified villages, 26 are in Odisha, 31 in Jharkhand, three in Uttar Pradesh, six in Arunachal Pradesh, two in Bihar, 26 in Assam, three in Chhattisgarh, eight in Madhya Pradesh, two in Rajasthan and one in Himachal Pradesh," said a statement from the power ministry, adding that a total of 7,874 villages have been electrified till date.
The government has decided to electrify the remaining un-electrified villages by May 1, 2018, it said.
"Out of the remaining 10,578 villages, 6,830 villages are to be electrified through grid, 2,932 villages are to be electrified through off-grid, where grid solutions are out of reach due to geographical barriers, and 361 villages are to be electrified by the state governments. 455 villages are uninhabitated," the statement added.
