At least 11 militants were killed Monday in a military raid in Egypt's Sina Peninsula, an army officer said.
"The raid was conducted in North Sinai bordering Israel," Xinhua quoted the official as saying.
The military also destroyed three vans, eight motorbikes and three tunnels used for smuggling between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, the official added.
Monday's operation was part of Egypt's running battle against militants, who have staged frequent attacks on army and police personnel since the overthrow of president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 and subsequent crackdown on his supporters.
At least 1,000 have been killed and thousands arrested.
Last week, more than 50 suspected militants were killed in response to the killing of two police and military officers by gunmen.
On Sunday, a six-year-old boy was killed when a rocket hit his house in the northern Sinai city of Sheikh Zuweid in an apparent attack targeting a security patrol passing near the house.
Sinai-based Al Qaeda linked Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis group have claimed responsibility for most of the attacks against security personnel.
