In a step which can solve the problem of housing for Delhi Police personnel to a great extent, the government Wednesday approved 15 building projects worth Rs.723.77 crore under the Delhi Police Building Programme Scheme.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh sanctioned the projects which will be implemented under the 12th Five Year Plan.
"The objective of the scheme is to provide adequate housing for Delhi Police and to improve its efficiency level by providing regular police stations, other office buildings and residential facilities," an official statement issued after the meeting said.
There are 182 police stations in Delhi. Out of these, 111 are functioning from departmental buildings and the remaining are either in rented accommodation or temporary structures, the statement said.
