A total of 183 candidates remain in the field in the second phase of assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir after nomination papers of 26 were rejected during scrutiny Saturday.
A statement issued by the state election office here said nomination papers of 93 candidates from various parties and independents were cleared for the eight constituencies in the Kashmir Valley which will go to polls in the second phase.
In the eight constituencies in Jammu region, 90 nominations papers were cleared.
Of the 209 nomination papers filed from both the Kashmir Valley and Jammu region, 26 were rejected by the returning officers of various constituencies.
The last day for withdrawal of nomination papers is Nov 1. Polling for this phase is scheduled for Dec 2.
