Tokyo, Dec 18 (IANS/Prensa Latina) About 4,000 birds were slaughtered in Japan after an avian flu outbreak was confirmed in a poultry farm in the southern island of Kyushu, authorities reported.

This is the first outbreak detected since April this year when a similar warning ended in the slaughter of more than 110,000 poultry.

Tests applied on the farm in Kyushu revealed the infection of animals with the H5 strain of virus.

Experts conducted the tests after the owner of the farm reported that 20 chickens died suddenly from Sunday to Monday.

Last November, on the southwest coast of the Japanese archipelago, authorities found wild birds carrying avian flu.
