As many as 59 teachers were found absent on Wednesday during random checking of 93 government schools in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh, official sources said.

The checking was done on the orders of newly posted District Magistrate Ritu Maheswari, a district official said.

Matters related to midday meals and sanitary conditions in these schools were also checked by as many as 31 officials deputed for the purpose.

"The District Magistrate's orders to deduct a day's salary from erring teachers salaries along with issuance of stern warnings to them have been sent to the school authorities concerned," the official said.
