Ninety-five people were taken ill and admitted to various hospitals after eating at a wedding feast in Tripura Monday night. The condition of 24 people is stated to be critical, an official said here Tuesday.
"A total of 95 people, including the bridegroom, were taken ill after eating at the wedding. Of them, condition of 24 people is serious. All the sick people were admitted to various hospitals in Sipahijala district," a health department spokesperson told reporters here.
According to doctors, the illness was caused by food poisoning.
The health department has rushed two medical teams to Melaghar in western Tripura, about 75 km southwest of Agartala, where the incident took place.
"If necessary, the health department would organise health camps for the ailing people in Melaghar," the official said.
