A large number of people Wednesday gathered here outside the private residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to wish him a happy New Year.
Supporters and common people camped outside the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief's house at Kaushambi near the national capital since early Wednesday with cards, bouquets and various gift items. Aam Aadmi Party volunteers took the bouquets and delivered them to Kejriwal.
Samay Singh, a 60-year-old flower seller from Haryana, designed a floral pattern (rangoli) outside Kejriwal's residence gate and waited to wish the chief minister a happy New Year.
"I am very happy to be here on this occasion. When Kejriwal came out of his residence, he thanked me for the floral pattern design," an excited Singh told IANS.
Kejriwal, meanwhile, wrote on Twitter: "A v happy new year. Special greetings to all delhi wallas."
The tweet received over 400 likes within hours while 600 people re-tweeted on it.
Neeraj Kumar Goel, a businessman who came along his wife and two children to greet Kejriwal, said his family was happy to see the chief minister though they failed to meet him in person.
"My son was so excited to meet him, and he started running behind his car. Kejriwal waved his hand from inside the car. We are happy," said Goel.
Due to his sickness, Kejriwal has been staying home for the past few days after doctors advised him to take rest.
He has, however, fulfilled two major election promises made by the AAP. He cut power tariff by half to benefit an estimated 28 lakh households and announced that 667 litres of water would be provided free of charge to all Delhi households that have metered connections.
