AAP reviews preparations for Lok Sabha polls (Third Lead)

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Thursday reviewed its preparation for the Lok Sabha polls and also discussed controversies involving some party members.

"We discussed issues that would likely come up in the Lok Sabha elections. Corruption would be main issue in the polls," party member Sanjay Singh told media persons after the meeting.

Singh said the party leaders discussed the appointment of the AAP's poll in-charge in every state.

The 35 members from across the country and 23 appointed members of the national executive committee met at the Constitution Club of India in New Delhi area. The meeting went on till the evening.

The party's second round of discussions will be held during the national council meeting scheduled Friday. Around 400 members from all over the country are expected to meet to discuss the Lok Sabha preparations.

"The party may give tickets to 350 candidates in the Lok Sabha polls. The candidates, however, will have to fulfill the party's parameters first," Singh said.

"On seats where the parameters are not met, the party will not contest," he added.

A party member said the discussions also focussed on controversies in the past one month, including those involving Law Minister Somnath Bharti and expelled legislator Vinod Kumar Binny.

Bharti courted controversy over his post-midnight campaign against an alleged sex-and-drug ring in a south Delhi neighbourhood allegedly involving some Africans that led to a face-off with Delhi Police. Binny, who represents Laxmi Nagar in the Delhi assembly, has been expelled from the party after revolting against Kejriwal.

In some Lok Sabha constituencies, the party has already begun campaigning.

The AAP is also accepting applications for candidature for the general elections, widely expected to be held in April-May.

The legislators and members were asked not to be involved in controversies. The session was led by senior leader Sanjay Singh, Gopal Rai and Pankaj Gupta.
