A district governor was killed in a bomb blast on Saturday in Afghanistan' Uruzgan province, an official said.
"The governor of Charchino district, Mohammad Ismael Haqyar was on way to office today (Saturday) morning when a bomb went off in Shah Mashad area leaving him dead and injuring another person," the official told Xinhua news agency.
Haqyar, who had served as governor of Charchino district for the past two years, was regarded an important anti-Taliban figure and had fought against militants alongside security forces.
An investigation has been initiated into the case, the official added.
