RJD chief Lalu Prasad Tuesday compared BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to a butcher, without naming him.
"Wo humse kya ladenge jinhe dekh kar kasai bhi sharmata ho (How will they fight us when even a butcher is ashamed on seeing them)," the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief said in a tweet.
He added he is a "son of the soil".
The remark comes after Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien Sunday, in a tweet, called Modi the "butcher of Gujarat".
Asked about the jibe, BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said the remark was made as the defeat is staring in the RJD's face.
"What should I say on this? Maybe he can see defeat is looming," Prasad said.
