Punjab's ruling Shiromani Akali Dal will field its candidates in the Delhi assembly elections later this year, party president Sukhbir Singh Badal said here Friday.
Badal, who is the Punjab deputy chief minister, said that the Akali Dal will field its candidates in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The Akali Dal and BJP have an alliance government in Punjab since 2007. Both parties have been in alliance for over three decades in the state.
Badal said that after its successful performance in Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) elections, the Akali Dal has consolidated its vote bank outside Punjab and was ready to expand its area of activity beyond the state.
He said that Akali Dal may also field its candidates for Lok Sabha polls from Haryana and Delhi but no final decision has been taken at the party level.
