Veteran actor Anupam Kher has been appointed a UN ambassador for the 'HeforShe' campaign for gender equality.
The "HeforShe" campaign has been initiated by UN Women. Its goal is to engage men and boys as agents of change for the achievement of gender equality and women's rights, by encouraging them to take action against inequalities faced by women and girls.
The 60-year-old actor says he is honoured.
"Thank you @UN_Women again 4 honoring me at @UN headquarters NY. Will work tirelessly for Gender Equality.:)@HeforShe," Anupam wrote on micro-blogging website Twitter.
"Thank you for the Honour and the Responsibility. Shall try my best to work towards Gender Equality worldwide," he added.
Hollywood actress Emma Watson in July 2014 was appointed as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador and helped launch the UN Women campaign 'HeForShe'.
