Arunachal governor invites suggestions from people

Arunachal Pradesh Governor J.P. Rajkhowa on Thursday sought constructive suggestions from political parties, civil society, intellectuals and NGOs for good governance and for removing corruption from the state.

A Raj Bhavan official said Rajkhowa called upon the people to maintain peace and communal harmony throughout the state.

Former Delhi Police commissioner Y.S. Dadwal, who was appointed advisor to the governor, called on Rajkhowa at Raj Bhavan here.

The governor instructed Dadwal to take immediate steps to ensure rule of law, and maintenance of peace and tranquillity.

"Utmost care should be taken to safeguard the interest of the common people. In the same line, freedom of the common citizens and government officers must not be infringed," Raj Bhavan spokesperson Atum Potom quoted the governor as saying.

President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday approved the union cabinet's recommendation to impose central rule in Arunachal Pradesh and keep the assembly in suspended animation.

"No person should be allowed to take law into his hands and no nuisance should be tolerated. Law breaker should be dealt with firm hands," Rajkhowa was quoted as saying.

Earlier, Rajkhowa met Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi, Principal Secretary Finance Satya Gopal and Secretary Law Onit Panyang and discussed the administrative and financial status of the state.

The officers briefed the Governor and suggested necessary corrective steps.

Meanwhile, a delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party led by state president Tai Tagak and national executive member Tapir Goa also called on the governor.

Rajkhowa advised the BJP leaders to work for the betterment of the people, society and the state.

The BJP leaders apprised the governor about problems faced by government staff and the common man.

They informed Rajkhowa about teachers not being paid salary regularly, and rampant encroachment by some people on government land.

Rajkhowa assured them that necessary action will be taken.
