The four-day practice match between Australia A and England XI has ended in a draw following a rain-interrupted final day at the Bellerive Oval here Saturday.
After the second and third days were abandoned due to rain, England resumed at 318 for no loss but retired Alastair Cook (154) and Michael Carberry (153) before taking the field.
Joe Root (58 not out) proved handy down the order and was well supported by Matt Prior (26) before England XI declared at 430/7 prior to the tea break. Ben Cutting (2/75) and Jon Holland (2/105) claimed two wickets each while Trent Copeland (1/99) clinched one.
Alex Doolan (31) made a strong start in the middle for Australia A, finding the boundary on five occasions before he was bowled by James Anderson (2/20). Michael Klinger (29) and Shaun Marsh (27 not out) helped take the hosts to 119/3 before the conclusion of play.
The Ashes start Nov 21 in Brisbane.
