Ayew brothers return to Ghana football team

Ghana internationals Andre Morgan Rami Ayew and Jordan Pierre Ayew have written to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) announcing their return to the national team, the Black Stars.

"I write to confirm my availability to play for the senior national team," Jordan Ayew wrote in his letter to the GFA Friday.

The two players, both sons of Abedi Ayew Pele, ex-skipper of the Black Stars, temporarily excused themselves from the Black Stars in February citing varied reasons, reports Xinhua.

Andrew was excluded from the Ghana squad for the 2013 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in South Africa for his inability to join the Black Stars squad for a pre-tournament camp in the United Arab Emirates at a set date even though he claimed he was injured.

Jordan was not included in the Black Stars team for the tournament.

While Andre cited his poor relationship with the management team of the Black Stars, his younger brother Jordan said his temporary leave was intended not only to work hard in his club (Olympique Marseille) but to also enable him to obtain the quality, experience and stature necessary for a call up to play in the national team.

Their comeback comes a day after former teammate Kevin Prince Boateng, who also excused himself from the national citing health concerns, announced his return to the Black Stars.

The GFA has welcomed the decision of the Marseille strikers.

"It is with great pleasure that we welcome your decision to return to action for the national team of Ghana, the Black Stars," acting GFA General Secretary Emmanuel Gyimah wrote in his letter to the Ayew brothers, to welcome their decision.

Ghana will play Zambia in their next match in a 2014 World Cup qualifier in Kumasi, Ghana's second largest city, some 270 km north of the national capital Sep 6.
