The West Bengal government Saturday announced a compensation of Rs.2 lakh to the families of the nine labourers from the state who were killed when an effluent treatment tank burst in Tamil Nadu's Ranipet town.
Of the 10 people who died, nine hailed from the state's West Midnapore district.
"The government has announced a compensation of Rs.2 lakh each for the families of the nine people who died in the accident. We are also working to bring their bodies to their native places at the earliest," said Minister for Disaster Management and Fire and Emergency Services Javed Ahmed Khan.
