The BJP-MGP alliance crisis in Goa showed no sign of abating on Monday as Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar asked MGP ministers to quit the cabinet and told them not to test his patience.
"He should quit and go. He stays there, enjoys the warmth of being in power till the last moment and now he wants to walk out with a new flag. This is not right. He should think a bit. If he has a sense of pride, he should resign," Parsekar said, when asked to comment on PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar, who on Sunday said he was not happy with Parsekar's leadership.
Political wrangling between alliance partners, the MGP and the BJP, has increased, especially with elections to the 40-member Goa assembly likely to be held early next year.
While the BJP has a simple majority of 21 seats in the assembly, the MGP has three MLAs, two of whom are cabinet ministers. The MGP was a member of the ruling Congress-led alliance from 2007 to 2012.
Parsekar also said that he and the BJP had been accommodating of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party but added that the comments made by its leaders was testing his patience.
"I try avoiding commenting on others. I cannot speak about those under us... I will have to test my patience this time," Parsekar said, adding the BJP was prepared to contest all 40 seats in the state.
