BJP vice president Parshottam Rupala on Monday filed his nomination papers as a candidate from Gujarat for Rajya Sabha elections slated for June 11.
He is seeking a upper house berth for the second time.
With this, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is all set to improve its tally to the upper house from Gujarat.
It had eight members against Congress' three, which is now left with two with the death of its sitting member Pravin Rashtrapal last month.
Rashtrapal's death necessitated the by-election to one seat.
Meanwhile, the Congress has not yet made up its mind whether to field a candidate or give the elections a pass given the fact that the BJP will win the seat on the basis of its strength of 120 in the 182-member assembly.
