Fillmaker Sanjay Gupta does not seem happy with the annual Bollywood award shows. He says these are "TRP driven" and nobody really cares about the "genuine hard work" that goes behind making films.
Gupta's comments on Twitter came after the 17th edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards, which took place in Madrid, was aired on TV on Sunday evening.
"Bollywood award shows are TRP (Television Rating Points) driven. Whoever gave a sh*t about genuine hard work that goes behind each film. They insult true talent," Gupta tweeted on Sunday night.
The "Jazbaa" director also questioned why the recipients at the technical awards are not given a chance to talk on TV.
Gupta also tagged actors Ajay Devgn, Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar as "true heroes" for staying away from the "hypocrisy" of Bollywood film awards.
"Ajay Devgan, Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar true heroes who have stayed away from the whole hypocrisy of Bollywood film awards. Respect," he said.
"Performing at an awards show is revenue for a star. Just as an ad or an appearance. It doesn't mean that they endorse the hypocrisy," added the "Kaante" director.
Gupta also lauded Akshay for not mincing words when stating that the only reason he performed at award shows is because he is paid for it.
"Akshay Kumar has never minced his words and has always stated clearly the only reason he has performed at award shows is because he is paid," Gupta said.
