BSF recovers 26 kg heroin, pistol in Punjab

The Border Security Force (BSF), in two separate incidents, has recovered 26 kg of heroin along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab's Amritsar sector, a senior official said on Thursday.

The BSF recovered 25 packets of heroin near Border out Post (BoP) Shahpur in Ajnala area of Amritsar sector, nearly 300 km from here, BSF Deputy Inspector General (DIG) R.S. Kataria said.

The seized consignment is worth Rs 130 crore in the international market.

BSF troopers also recovered a pistol, six rounds of ammunition, a Pakistani mobile and two Pakistani SIM cards.

Alert BSF troopers noticed suspicious movement of smugglers from the Pakistan side near the border security fence early on Thursday.

The smugglers were challenged but they escaped.

The recovery was made following a search of the area on Thursday morning.

The BSF recovered one kg of heroin from the tractor of an Indian farmer near BoP Fatehpur of Amritsar sector on Wednesday.

Two farmers, Sukhdev Singh and Dilbagh Singh, were apprehended by the BSF in this connection.

The BSF has recovered nearly 197 kg of heroin in the Punjab sector this year.
