BSF constable Rocky, who lost his life fighting Pakistani terrorists in the Udhampur terror attack, was cremated with state honours in Haryana on Friday.
The cremation took place at his native village Ramgarh Majra in Yamunanagar district.
Hundreds of villagers and people from nearby areas thronged the cremation ground to bid a tearful send-off to the Border Security Force (BSF) trooper.
BSF and district officials as well as political leaders were also present.
Rocky's body was brought to the village on Thursday evening. He had joined the BSF over two years ago.
"He was a brave man who was not afraid to lay down his life for the country," Rocky's father Prithi Chand said as he recalled Rocky's recent visit to meet his family.
Rocky, 23, was killed as he fought two terrorists and killed one of them when a BSF bus was ambushed in Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.
He thus saved the lives of over 40 unarmed BSF personnel on the bus.
The pyre was lit by Rocky's elder brother Rohit Kumar. A guard of honour was given.
The Haryana government on Thursday announced a grant of Rs.20 lakh as well as a government job for one member of Rocky's family.
