Cabinet clears India's stand for climate change talks

The cabinet Tuesday cleared India's negotiating position for the climate change talks, now being held in Peruvian capital Lima.

"The approach seeks to protect the interests of the country in climate change negotiations based on the principles of the United Nations Framework," said an official statement Tuesday after the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The 12-day 20th Conference of Parties (COP-20) on climate change began Monday in Lima.

CoP-20 is expected to focus on the elements of 2015 Agreement and Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and its Kyoto Protocol (KP).
