The union government would soon be initiating steps to improve living conditions of widows in Varanasi and Vrindavan, union minister Kalraj Mishra said on Saturday.
"We are committed to taking these important measures to ensure their dignity and welfare in near future," he said during a function held on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose here.
The minister said the time had come for society to also work towards assimilation of these widows into the mainstream.
Mishra also lauded the efforts by Bindeshwar Pathak's Sulabh International for the welfare of widows and said everyone should contribute in some way or the other to ensure that the lives of these widows improved.
