A special comclave of chief ministers is to be held in the national capital Sep 12 to push the agenda of housing for all by 2022, said the National Real Estate Developers' Council (NAREDCO) here.
According to the realtors' organisation, the event is being supported by the urban development and housing and urban poverty alleviation ministries. The conclave will discuss the realty industry perspective from the Centre and states.
"We will debate on targeting housing deficit within eight years by creating 90 million dwelling units and steps to meet capital inflow of $2 billion for housing alone," said Sunil Mantri, president of NAREDCO.
Housing is a state subject and the Centre is expected to lay down guidelines.
The participants in the event will discuss various issues that include policy reforms, easing finance, land parcels for mass housing, and speedy approvals.
The convention assumes significance as recently Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu said that he will hold discussions with all stakeholders on the policy to implement the NDA's (National Democratic Alliance) election promise - 'Housing For All by 2022'.
Meanwhile, the rural development ministry has envisaged an expenditure of Rs.3.45 lakh crore on building nearly 30 million houses for the homeless by 2022 under the National Gramin Awaas Mission and this works out to a Rs.50,000 crore-a-year programme.
According to the technical group on urban housing shortage, the housing deficit in the country is estimated at 18.78 million units at the beginning of 12th Plan period.
It is estimated to rise to 30 million units if supply remains as the current level.
