China Friday expressed its willingness to work with India's new government to promote their bilateral partnership.
"China and India are friendly neighbours, and the current relations between the two countries are maintaining a good momentum", Xinhua quoted a foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying as saying during a daily briefing, while the counting of parliamentary votes was underway in India.
"China has always attached great importance to ties with India," the official said, adding there are great opportunities for bilateral relations in 2014, the "China-India Friendship Year".
Noting that "the total population of China and India make up one third of the global population", the official said friendly relations meet the common interests of the two countries and would contribute to regional and global peace and development.
On Friday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was poised to form the next government, winning a comfortable majority in the Lok Sabha.
