Convergence of benefit schemes required: Railway minister

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu Friday called for convergence of all welfare benefit schemes under the central and state governments.

According to the Railway minister, convergence of benefit schemes will be a better option to reach out to the poor families.

"There are many central and states' schemes to remove poverty. The objective is that it should not only reach villages but also the family residing in villages. But it does not happen," Prabhu said at the national forum for action on convergence.

"For this, convergence is required. Because all these schemes are meant for families only," he said, adding that "the benefit will not reach if there will be no convergence".

The minister said that convergence of welfare schemes is the best way to reach out to economically weaker sections of society.

Prabhu pointed out the need for converging Aadhar cards with Jan Dhan Yojana.

"This is convergence. The medium to reach out to people should also be converged so that it benefits the people."
