A young man, related to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, died in Chandigarh on Friday after he was crushed under the wheels a luxury car.
Akansh Sen, the son of Virbhadra Singh's brother-in-law, died in the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) here after battling for life for nearly 36 hours. Akansh was the nephew of former MP Pratibha Singh, wife of Virbhadra Singh.
Akansh was critically injured after two youths from Punjab in a BMW car hit him early on Thursday in Chandigarh's upscale Sector 9. The car driver did not stop the vehicle and crushed the victim's head under its wheels. The accused then drove away in the car from the spot.
The victim was rushed by his friends to PGIMER where he was admitted to the intensive care unit and put on ventilator.
The incident took place following a reported fight between one of the occupants of the car and another youth who was a friend of Akansh. The brawl took place at the end of a whole-night party at the residence of one of their common friends.
The Chandigarh Police registered a case of attempt to murder against the car occupants, identified as Harmehtab Singh, great grandson of a former leading politician in Punjab, and Balraj Randhawa.
Police teams conducted searches at various locations in Punjab and adjoining areas in the past 24 hours to nab the accused.
During a raid on a farmhouse on the Chandigarh-Ludhiana road, where the accused were believed to be hiding, two policemen were injured when the raiding police party was attacked by trained dogs which were let loose on them by people inside the farmhouse.
