Delhi Food and Civil Supplies Minister Imran Hussain has ordered officials to stop cancelling or issuing ration cards as the department was "not following proper procedure".
"It is being alleged that the Food and Supplies Department is not following proper procedure in the process of addition and deletion of names in the ration cards and is acting in arbitrary and malafide manner," a March 10 order issued by Hussain read.
"In view of the aforesaid complaints it is hereby directed that the process of cancellation of existing ration cards and making of new ration cards, may be stopped herewith immediately till further orders," the order said.
Hussain also ordered that prior permission should be taken from him for issuing or cancelling ration cards if there is any emergency.
The Minister said he came to know about the issue from MLAs and NGOs.
