Delhi records over 40 degrees, mercury to rise

The national capital on Monday was hot at 40 degree Celsius, three notches above the season's average, the weather office said, while predicting a marginal rise in mercury over next few days.

At Palam area of Delhi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 41.6 degrees, four notches above the season's average. At Ayanagar, it was 40.8 degrees.

Tuesday will see strong surface winds towards daytime, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

According to weather analysts, while next respite is likely around 20 or 21 April, with possibility of light rain.

"There will be a marginal rise in temperature over next few days. Maximum temperature may rise to 41 degrees," said Mahesh Palawat, director private weather forecasting agency Skymet.

Monday's minimum temperature was recorded 22.4 degrees, a notch above the season's average. The humidity oscillated between 32 to 45 per cent.

Sunday's maximum temperature was recorded at 36 degrees, a notch above the season's average, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 20.5 degrees.
