Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai on Friday sought support from six states in the implementation of the second phase of odd-even scheme, starting from April 15.
"I solicit your cooperation in making Odd-Even Part 2 a success and implement our plan to restrict the entry of heavy diesel vehicles in Delhi," he said in a letter to his counterparts in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and the governor of Uttarakhand, which is currently under central rule.
"In view of the past experience, I would request to kindly give wide publicity to this special drive to be launched by this government so that the cars prohibited from plying on the roads on a particular day as per the odd-even formula, do not ry to enter Delhi in violation of the prescribed norms. If the general public is sensitised about this special drive well in advance, they may be saved from incovenience," he said.
Noting that the Aam Aadmi Party government is trying "to restrict the movement of heavy diesel vehicles in Delhi", he said: "I would therefore, request you to devise a plan for diversion of heavy vehicles leaving your state to reach some other state, without passing through Delhi. Such a plan will go a long way in reducing vehicular pollution and congestion on the roads of Delhi."
