After demonetisation of high-denomination currency notes by the central government, the Madhya Pradesh government has started taking action against those posting controversial comments in social media against the move.
Over the past a few days, two persons making adverse comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan have even been arrested. In Indore, the authorities went to the extent of imposing Section 144 in view of the controversial posts.
On November 11, three days after the announcement of demonetisation decision, Abhishek Mishra of Chhatarpur district had posted a photo of CM Chouhan and a car with currency notes in its trunk and made some comments. This led to his arrest by the Cyber Cell sleuths.
Prior to this, he had also made some offending comments about the Prime Minister and some persons associated with the Rashtriya Swyamsewak Sangh.
Cyber Cell Inspector Ravikant Dahariya told IANS: "Abhishek Mishra has been booked under Section 66C of the Information Technology Act, 2000 for some of his controversial postings made after the demonetisation decision was implemented."
Since offences under Section 66C are bailable, he has been released on bail.
In a similar instance, Aslam Khan of Morena published a morphed image of PM Modi in social media. On a complaint filed by a BJP supporter, police took him into custody.
According to police officer Balram Singh Yadav, the complaint had been lodged last Wednesday and Aslam was taken into custody the same day.
On November 14, Indore District Magistrate P. Narhari issued an order banning posting of any adverse comment in social media against the demonetisation decision of the central government under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
