Former army chief Gen V.K. Singh Tuesday said incidents along the Pakistan and China borders would not have happened if a secret unit operational during his tenure was not disbanded.
Referring to Technical Support Division (TSD), a counter intelligence unit of the Indian Army which became fully operational during his tenure, he said the border incidents would not have happened if the unit was allowed to continue.
"Today, whatever incidents are happening on the border, those would not have happened if the unit was not disbanded," V.K. Singh said at a press conference here.
He did not elaborate "on the incidents".
Answering a query, V.K. Singh said questions about disbanding the TSD should be posed to those who took the decision.
Maj.Gen. Narendra Bahadur Singh, an associate of V.K. Singh, present at the conference, said the former army chief was referring to the incidents along the country's northern and eastern borders.
The army set up a board of officers to inquire into the functioning of the TSD of the Corps of Military Intelligence.
Reports in a section of media had said the TSD secret funds were also paid to an NGO to try and change the line of succession in the army top brass through a litigation.
V.K. Singh denied the allegation.
Sources said the present army chief, General Bikram Singh began the process to shut down the TSD after assuming office in May last year.
