The Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) will meet Thursday to address the concerns of ad-hoc teachers following the introduction of a points system for appointments.

"Keeping in mind the anxiety of thousands of ad-hoc teachers over the recent points system introduced to screen candidates before interviews as this may adversely affect the process of appointments, the DUTA executive has decided to meet on an emergency basis Thursday," said DUTA president Nandita Narain.

According to the points system approved by the DU executive council, candidates will get points based on their performance at the undergraduate, postgraduate, MPhil and PhD levels, their National Eligibility Test (NET) and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) scores and their research and teaching experience.

While a candidate aspiring to be a departmental teacher at entry level should score at least 75 points, a college level teacher must score 60 points.

"The DUTA wants to ensure an impartial, transparent and entirely legal process of appointments," said Narain.

Over 4,000 teaching posts are lying vacant in colleges and departments across DU, she added.
