A teachers' group of Delhi University will stage a demonstration at the vice chancellor's office Thursday demanding that ad hoc teachers be made permanent.
"We demand permanent retention of all teachers working on an ad hoc basis in the varsity," S.K. Mishra, press secretary of teachers' body Academics for Action and Development (AAD), told IANS.
There are 4,000 teaching seats in the varsity. AAD has been demanding that the university must honour its earlier commitment to fill the vacancies sanctioned by the University Grants Commission.
"We had spoken to authorities earlier but no action has been taken. We are forced to protest," Mishra said.
The demonstration will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
