The Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) on Wednesday said it has won a short term and a long term bid for selling of 300 megawatt (MW) power to Bangladesh.

The public sector undertaking said that the contract was through its power trader NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd (NVVNL) and it was the first time that it won an international tender for cross-border supply of electricity.

The short term supply will commence from June 2018 and continue up to December 2019 while the long term power supply to begin from January 2022 and will be up to May 2033, the company said in a statement.

"The DVC power plants and integrated transmission systems are located in close proximity to Bangladesh and is well positioned to meet the power demand," a spokesperson said.

Its installed capacity is 7,237 MW and the development would help the loss making corporation to increase its revenue.
