The Congress on Friday said the Election Commission (EC) has issued directions for the removal of hoardings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from railway stations, airports and petrol pumps, which were put up after the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct.
A delegation from the Congress visited the EC office here and briefed the media after the meeting.
"We had sent a representation on March 10 to the EC. The EC today assured us that it has taken cognisance of the complaint and has issued directions for removal of advertisements of the Prime Minister from railways stations, airports, and petrol pumps.
"The EC has asked for a report by evening on the action to see if any of them are still to be removed," Congress spokesperson R.P.N. Singh told reporters here outside the EC office.
The Congress complaint was against the putting up of these hoardings after the Model Code of Conduct had come into force on March 10.
It also complained about "obscene comments" made by the "ministers" against Congress President Rahul Gandhi and asked it to issue notices to the culprits.
"We have also complained to the EC about the kind of obscene comments which are being made against Congress President Rahul Gandhi. The EC took note of it and said in clear terms that it has asked for the videos to know where and how these comments were made and that it will investigate the matter," Singh said.
