World football's governing body FIFA has guaranteed that Nigeria is in no danger of forfeiting particiaption in the Confederations Cup beginning Saturday.
The Africa Cup of Nations champions missed their scheduled flight to Brazil Thursday after the players went on strike over a pay dispute, reports Xinhua.
"I spoke with the team manager and they will be on the plane Saturday and at the Confederations Cup," FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke said during a press conference here Thursday.
The row was sparked after the Nigerian football federation told the players that their promise of $10,000 for each win during the tournament had been halved.
"As I speak the matter has been resolved by the sports minister (Bolaji Abdullahi)," Nigerian government spokesperson Julius Ogunro told local media.
Nigeria will now arrive Saturday, just two days before their tournament opener against Tahiti in Belo Horizonte.
