At least five suspected criminals were killed in separate operations by police in Pakistan's Karachi city, a media report said on Tuesday.
According to police, the operations took place in the areas of Lyari and Mochko, Geo News reported.
Officials claimed those killed in action were wanted for extortion and kidnapping, and were linked to Lyari-based criminal gangs.
Senior Superintendent of Police (city) Fida Hussain said police forces were carrying out a search operation in Baghdadi area of Lyari when suspects opened fire on the law enforcers.
He said that three suspected criminals were killed when police fired back in response.
In a similar action in the precincts of Mochko police station two suspected criminals were killed.
Hussain said that weapons recovered from the criminals included two sub-machine guns (SMG) and grenade launchers.
