In a statement issued here, the Coast Guard said a 23-member team led by two officers were involved in rescue efforts in Chennai with four rubberized inflatable boats.
Over 1,000 people stranded at different locations were provided with food cooked on board Coast Guard ships.
Additional food was being prepared for distribution, the Coast Guard said.
