Former Ukrainian midfielder Andriy Gusin died Wednesday in a motorbike crash, the Ukrainian Football Federation said. Gusin, 41, is survived by his wife and three children.
The accident occurred at 2 p.m. local time at Chayka motordrome outside Kiev when Gusin, who was a motorbike enthusiast, fell off his vehicle after losing control at the speedy road. He died instantly, reports Xinhua.
Gusin was one of the most prominent Ukrainian footballers who soared to the heights of fame playing for Dynamo Kiev and the Ukrainian national team in late 1990s and early 2000s.
During his 12-year career at Dynamo, Gusin scored 22 goals in 170 appearances, helping the team from Kiev to reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals in 1999.
For his country, Gusin made 71 appearances and scored nine goals, becoming one of the top-performers of the national team for the number of matches played.
During his career as a manager, he coached several Russian clubs as well as the second team of Dynamo Kiev.
