Foundation laid for police command control centre in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, the city of pearls, will soon have an integrated police command and control centre that is expected to improve policing in the Telangana state capital at par with developed countries.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday laid the foundation stone for the world-class facility to be built in the posh Banjara Hills area.

He said work on the centre would be completed as early as possible.

The chief minister announced that the government has sanctioned Rs.302 crore for the centre and another Rs.700 crore will be allocated in the next budget.

The chief minister said the centre would enable use of latest technologies to control crime and improve policing at par with the developed countries.

The centre, which will be a technology hub, is part of the government's efforts to make Hyderabad a global city and further improve law and order to create a conducive and hassle-free environment for the investors.

The state-of-the-art centre will serve as the nerve centre for the police in Hyderabad and across Telangana and for other departments.

The centre, which will also house the headquarters of Hyderabad police, can also be used in times of natural calamities and for crisis management.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner Mahender Reddy said the centre would acquire and deploy technologies relating to crime control, traffic management, women safety, intelligence gathering, emergency response management, forensic and decision making tools techniques and smart city components. The facility will have data bases and it will carry out data analytics and processing.

"We want to see a day in two years when no policeman will be seen on street for traffic management," he said.

The commissioner said the centre would be twin glass towers of 24 and 18 floors and comprise of four blocks. There will be a mega video wall of the entire city. The building will house a public observation deck and a police museum on the 17th floor. It will also have a facility for helicopters to land on top of the building.

The police chief said the centre will be a technology-driven operational hub for all wings of police and stakeholder government departments

The chief minister announced that 10,000 CCTV cameras will be installed in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad to further improve policing.

He urged the industries and business establishments to become partners in the police modernization project under their corporate social responsibility activities.
