Four BJP parliamentarians from Jharkhand have demanded changes in the domicile policy brought forth by their own party's government in the state.
As per the notified domicile policy, anyone living in Jharkhand for 30 years and possessing immovable assets will be considered a state resident.
In a letter to Governor Draupadi Murmu, Ranchi's Lok Sabha MP Ram Tahal Chaudhary, Karia Munda (Khuti), Bidyut Baran Mahto (Jamshedpur) and Lakshman Gilua (Chaibasa) have demanded changes in the policy.
These parliamentarians, from tribal and Mahto castes, said the policy had several shortcomings and was opposed by several parties which were demanding certain changes.
"Discontent is rising among the 'adivasis' and 'moolvasis' of the state," the letter said and suggested some changes in the policy.
The Raghubar Das government's alliance partner -- All Jharkhand Students Union -- as well as the opposition parties are opposed to the policy.
The opposition Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has called for a statewide shutdown on May 14.
