Australian parents who are fans of the hit TV series "Game of Thrones" (GoT) are naming their babies after key characters in the epic fantasy show.
According to reports, 'Khaleesi', a title for a queen invented by GoT author George R.R. Martin, did not figure on the official New South Wales (NSW) Registry of Births, Deaths & Marriages lists in 2010, news.com.au reported on Monday.
But by the end of 2014, the name, and variations on its spelling such as 'Kaleesi', was more popular for baby girls than classics such as Sharon.
Births, Deaths & Marriages spokeswoman Alana Sheil said that the popularity of the name Arya -- one of the key characters from the GoT's Stark family -- has more than tripled in the past four years.
Queensland mother Krissinda Johnston chose the name Khaleesi Jane Ruler for her daughter two years ago after watching the series.
The much-awaited fifth series of the HBO production is due to debut worldwide on Monday night.
