Ghana sets up body to probe early World Cup exit

The Ghanaian government has set up a three-man committee to investigate the country's abysmal performance in the ongoing 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The committee, headed by Justice Senyo Dzamefe, an Appeals Court Judge, will enquire into matters relating to Ghana's Black Stars team's preparation for the tournament and possible lapses therein which might have caused their early exit from the tournament, a statement signed by the new Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga said Friday, reports Xinhua.

It will also inquire into matters relating to Ghana's treatment of the country's football fans who were sent to support the Black Stars by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and advise government on the financing of activities of the Black Stars and other national teams, among other matters of public interest concerning the organisation of Ghana's participation in the tournament.

The other members of the committee include Moses Foh Amoaning, a top Sports Broadcaster and lawyer and Kofi Anokye Darko, Sports enthusiast.

The setting up of the committee became necessary after Ghana's first round exit in the ongoing 2014 World Cup.

The committee has thirty days to present its report to the minister.

The Ghana aBlack Stars' failed to make it past the first round after they picked up a point from the three group games played against the United States, Germany and Portugal.

Many fans have attributed the team' s poor display in the tournament to off-pitch issues.
